I can’t go totally traditional and I can’t go totally without my past influences. I try to blend it all in”
— Ernesto Ybarra
SEATTLE, WA, UNITED STATES, March 15, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Ernesto Ybarra’s palate is made up of several different flavors. Some give color to his Mexican heritage, and others paint his American story from farm workers to urban city dwellers. His newest collection, Saints and Sinners, is inspired by 4 years of high quality cannabis and involvement in the Pike Place Market community.

At school and around his friends, the painter felt like a regular American kid growing up in Minnesota. But at home, he was met with the strong presence of his Mexican heritage, reinforced by the warmth of a big family, his abuelita’s hand-made tortillas and a strict Catholic upbringing. Saints and Sinners merges his religious upbringing and his perspective on social issues.

“These influences are infused in me like a fat joint, and I can’t separate them for some reason. I can’t go totally traditional and I can’t go totally without my past influences. I try to blend it all in,” he said. “I would call it something like my Mesoamerican expressionism and abstract expressionism.”

Another source of Ybarra’s inspiration is Jean-Michel Basquiat, whose work moved Ybarra away from his original pursuit of photography in college and motivated him to begin painting.

“Through his art, I was extremely inspired; I felt the world shift, and it started me on this path,” said the 41-year-old.

Ybarra’s work will be featured at The Bakeréé in Seattle's historic Georgetown neighborhood starting March 16, 2018 for six weeks. The Bakeréé will also host DJ Ramos of KEXP and Avi Loud of Maiden Noir/Prototype Sessions. Young Cho of Phorale fame will be serving up Korean Barbecue Gyros.

This will be Young's last event before being featured on Food Network's Chopped and the opening of his new spot in the International District.
