The Royal Foundry, Sinzere, Nice Horse, Fin McDowell among the winners at YYC Music Awards

For the second year in a row, Calgary country act Nice Horse was crowned Group of the Year at the YYC Music Awards.

The awards, held live for the first time in two years, were given out at a gala presentation on Sunday the Grey Eagle Casino Event Centre.

Featuring live performances and hosted by the CBC’s Chris dela Torre, the gala included the presentation of 25 awards.

The Royal Foundry’s Listen to the Beat received two awards, including Alternative Recording of the Year and Single of the Year for the title track. Calgary rapper Sinzere also received two trophies, one for Blackout as Rap Recording of the Year and one for the video for Shake the Building, directed by Emil Agopian, for Video of the Year. Fin McDowell was presented both the Pop Recording Artist of the Year award for Losing Game and was given the Prophets of Music Emerging Artist Award.

Buckley’s Frame by Frame for Folk Recording of the Year; Christopher Hewitt, owner of Dickens Pub, for Industry Person of the Year; FAC Music’s Oh What A Day for Inspirational/Holiday Recording of the Year; The Al Muirhead Quintet’s Live from Frankie’s and the Yardbird for Jazz Recording of the Year; Osyron’s Kingsbane Delux Edition for Metal Recording of the Year; Ron A. McNeill’s Hey Bob Dylan for the People’s Choice Award;   Sargeant X Comrade’s The Elephant In the Room for R&B/Soul Record of the Year; MCC Recording Studio for Recording Studio of the Year; Miesha and the Spanks’ Mixed Blood Girl for Rock Recording of the Year; Zenon for Solo Artist of the Year; Kyle McKearney won Songwriter of the Year for Each and Every Day; Dickens Pub won for Venue/Presenter of the Year; and Luis Tovar’s Como Te Hago Entender won for World/Cultural Recording of the Year.
