  • Samurai Music is turning ten this year and celebrating with a compilation called Decade. Decade aims to bring together the various strands of the Samurai sound—once compartmentalized into several different sub-labels—for one cohesive album. Core artists like ASC, Sam KDC, Homemade Weapons, Ancestral Voices and Tokyo Prose all appear, along with AnD, Nucleus & Paradox and the late Marcus Intalex. "We split Samurai Music into several offshoots over time," founder Presha explains in the press notes, "but now we have reached a desirable point where the Samurai name has become synonymous with adventurous curation, and we no longer need divisions for 'sounds.'" The notes accompanying the album also address the changing musical landscape over the last ten years and the shift towards digital formats. Presha says that Samurai remains "committed to desirable physical products and [has] maintained this through periods where our contemporaries all but abandoned their attention to vinyl production." Decade lands on December 15th on both digital and triple-vinyl formats. Listen to Marcus Intalex's "Halflife."
