ORANGE — The Orange Community Band will present the 44th Pops Concert in Orange Town Hall’s Ruth B. Smith Auditorium at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 25.
Conductor Stephanie Parker will present a program of marches, classics and pop music, including “American Landscape #1” by Robert W. Smith, with Andrea Woods on piano, “Forgotten Dreams” by Leroy Anderson, and “Blue Skies” by Irving Berlin, sung by Linda Piragis. Several marches and the national anthem will round out the program, which is always subject to change.
The Pops concert is traditionally the start to the band’s regular season of outdoor concerts on the bandstand. It provides a period for band members to refresh their skills after the long winter of few opportunities to play with other musicians, and to become familiar with the new music purchased annually.
The program booklet for the Pops also provides the money needed for the band to purchase new music, provide scholarships for young musicians, and cover the expenses of providing the free concerts for the community during the summer.
The summer season on the bandstand will begin at 7 p.m. on June 20. To become a patron or a sponsor, contact Maureen Riendeau, Susan TandySonger, Stephanie Parker or another band member before April 15.
