3 key positions the Eagles must address in the NFL Draft

The Philadelphia Eagles have eight selections in the 2025 NFL Draft, including four 5th-round picks. They will likely address the positions of Safety, Cornerback, starting Guard, and backup Tackle with three or four of their picks. The Eagles value drafting and developing their players as much as any team in the NFL and they will look to build on their roster to make another Super Bowl run this season.

Eagles’ positions of need:

Offensive Line

Philadelphia has had an embarrassment of riches on the offensive line for years. After losing Mekhi Becton they will likely address the position in the draft, despite trading for Kenyon Green, to prevent their strength from eventually becoming a weakness. Tyler Steen seems to be the in-house option to take the abandoned RG job, but he has also had the opportunity to win that position two years in a row and ended up as the backup. Hopefully for Steen, the third time is the charm.

The Eagles signed Kendall Lamm to fill the role that backup OT Fred Johnson left behind, but drafting a long-term answer to develop at OT would not be surprising. Nobody values the trenches more than Howie and the Eagles. The Eagles Offensive line Coach Stoutland has a persuasive voice in the war room and if there is a player he bangs the table for, expect them to be considered.

Philly has met with many OLs including Anthony Belton, Charles Grant, Jackson Slater, Jalen Travis, Jonah Savaiinaea, Josh Conerly Jr., and Donovan Jackson.

Cornerback

A year after drafting Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean with their first two picks creates some doubt that the Eagles would use another high pick at the same position in the 2025 NFL Draft. I would not be so sure about that. The cost of signing a free agent corner is astronomical and the Birds lost James Bradberry, Avonte Maddox, Isaiah Rodgers, and Big Play Slay from the cornerback room.

Bringing in Adoree’ Jackson seems to be the type of signing that Rodgers was last year. Drafting a highly skilled corner to play opposite Quinyon would be a sneaky, bold, and exciting move for the Eagles. They have met with numerous CB prospects this draft cycle, including; Nohl Williams, Dorian Strong, Trey Amos, and Maxwell Hairston, amongst many others. A couple of those players would come with a high draft pick investment. CB is a position to pay attention to.

Safety

The Eagles shocked many when they dealt Chauncey Gardner-Johnson to the Texans for Kenyon Green. It is rare to see the Eagles create an opening on the starting squad, but that is what they did. Reed Blankenship will be one of their starters at the position, but they will be on a search and have an open competition for the other. The team has confidence in former third-round pick Sydney Brown, but he needs to prove his ability to stay healthy to be a long-term answer.

Tristin McCollum is another safety on the roster who could be in the mix for a starting role, but he has only ever started one game and would seem to have a difficult challenge ahead of taking the job. Saftey is another position that the Eagles have met with many prospects. A few names include Alijah Clark, Andrew Mukuba, and Malachi Moore.

I am releasing a lot of draft content including player profiles and rankings over the next three weeks to prepare for the 2025 NFL Draft.

This year’s draft is being held in Green Bay Wisconsin.
