Walmart’s Easter meal promotion has returned, continuing the retailer’s tradition of food bundling associated with holiday dining that helps highlight savings.

This year, the company announced that its annual Easter meal kit includes a double-glazed ham, classic Kraft Mac and Cheese, fluffy dinner rolls, and an assortment of veggies, all for just $43 or $6 per person.

Yet, there's an egg-sized gap in the 2025 Easter kit—eggs are absent, arguably the season's symbol. Despite Walmart beating last year's price, they quietly omitted any mention of eggs in their recent announcement.

Fans of low-cost festive feasts will be delighted as Walmart reaffirmed its pledge to pile on the savings. "Back by customer demand, Walmart is proud to again offer incredible savings on top of its Every Day Low Prices with an entire Easter meal at an even lower average price than last year," the supermarket chain said in their latest statement. As per Walmart's website, the thrifty meal deal is up for grabs until April 20.

While egg-hunt enthusiasts might miss the shell-shocked surprise, the financial relief is evident—Walmart's 2024 Easter meal costs under $8 a person.

Last year's spread did feature an 18-egg pack of Marketside's cage-free large brown eggs; however, a quick check reveals these would set New Yorkers back $8.04 for the carton right now.

John Laney, executive vice president of food for Walmart U.S., stated in a press release: "Our customers are seeking more opportunities to save, and we're committed to helping them do just that with consistently low prices every day, no matter when, where or how they shop."

The cost of eggs has been a contentious issue this year for retailers, consumers, and politicians alike, as bird flu-induced shortages have caused the price of this protein source to skyrocket.

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average price of a dozen large Grade A eggs peaked at $5.90 in February. Egg prices have recently been a significant factor in driving up grocery inflation, which remained steady at an annual rate of 1.9% in February but is significantly higher than levels seen throughout much of 2024. In February, egg prices were nearly 60% higher than they were at the same time in 2024.

A report released earlier this month by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) indicates that egg prices have been dropping significantly at the wholesale level recently. The USDA also noted that egg demand has decreased, partly because retailers have refrained from promoting them to customers.
