Ghanaโs army has announced the suspected hijacking of a fishing vessel in its waters on Thursday by unknown pirates.
Three Chinese nationals are reported missing and believed to have been kidnapped after the attack, a statement Saturday from the army said.
According to the Ghanaian army command, seven armed persons boarded the ship and fired warning shots on Thursday.
During the incident which lasted about three hours, some crew members hid only to come out of hiding to detect that three Chinese crew members were missing.
The crew members suspected to have been kidnapped are the shipโs captain, chief mate and chief engineer were missing, according to the armed forces statement.
The vessel, MENGXIN 1, is now docked at Tema Fishing Harbour with the Ghanaโs navy now investigating the incident.
