Austal USA christens first steel ship USNS Billy Frank Jr. in Mobile

MOBILE, Ala. -- Austal Ship Manufacturing in Mobile christened its first steel ship on Saturday.

The USNS Billy Frank Jr. will be the Navy's sixth generation towing, salvage and rescue ship.

Saturday's ceremony included special guests from the Navy, the family sponsoring the ship and Austal management.

Austal USA posted the following statement:

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the Frank family, the Nisqually Tribe, and all those involved in bringing this great vessel to fruition. May the USNS Billy Frank Jr. sail with purpose and honor the values the late Billy Frank Jr. so passionately upheld.
