Harold A. Strohecker

1936-2025

COLUMBIANA — Harold A. Strohecker, of Columbiana, Ohio, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 27, 2025. He was lovingly cared for by the staff at the Christian House in East Palestine.

Born and raised on State Line Road Aug. 16, 1936, to Odous and Mildred Strohecker, Harold graduated from East Palestine High School in 1954. In his early years, he worked with his dad in the family coal mining business and C.W. Haney Associates, a land surveyor. Harold Served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany and was head of the Artillery Surveying crew.

He studied at YSU and passed the Land Surveying and Civil Engineering tests without a degree. Harold was a well-respected land surveyor of the tri-county area for over 50 years. He surveyed most of the busy Route 224 strip while it was still farmland, including the Boardman Plaza, Southern Park Mall and East to Route 680. Harold also was on the team of surveyors that built U.S. Route 71 to Cincinnati in the early 1960s. He engineered the Castlo Industrial Park in Struthers, which was the most challenging job in his career. He thrived for a challenging project at work and at home.

In 1984, finding the economy was slowing down, Harold and his wife, Joyce, began their business career together building Municipal Signs & Sales Inc. They grew a successful, reputable business that their children continue to run today.

Harold married Joyce Mohr, June 12, 1964. They moved to McCloskey Road, Columbiana, Ohio, in 1973, with their three children, Jay, Lynn and Jean. Here, Harold used and maintained the land up until his 88th year and 4 months. On a small farm, he raised beef, pork and tinkered with sheep the last few years. He was happiest outside burning brush and collecting wood with Bubba Anthony Weiner Dog.

A hard worker all his life, he lived to appreciate the Golden Years with life-long friends square dancing, listening to “Old Timey Music,” going out to eat and playing cards. He enjoyed the yearly weekend Family Vacations and watching his grandchildren grow. Harold looked forward to all the family gatherings, Holidays, Birthdays and Reunions. He was very active for over 55 years at Trinity United Methodist Church, in New Springfield, Ohio.

He leaves behind his wife Joyce of 60 years; children Jay (Michelle) Strohecker, Lynn (Mark) Guy and Jean (Chris) Gernert; eight grandchildren: Nathaniel (Renee) Guy, Lyndsay (Eliezer) De La Rosa, Micah (Monica) Guy, Erin (Ryan) Neiheisel, Issac Guy and Aubrin, Zach and Ian Strohecker. He was very entertained by his 12 and counting great-grandchildren. Harold also leaves sister Betty Reiser and brother Dale Strohecker, and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded death by his parents and sister Marie Harding, and infant sister Doris.

The family will receive friends Sunday, March 30, 2025, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Linsley-Royal Funeral Home in East Palestine. A funeral service will follow at 6 p.m. with Edie Boles officiating. A private burial will be held at Crest Haven Memorial Gardens in New Waterford.
