Fans of The Beatles were delighted by a "never been seen before" photograph of Paul McCartney.

The picture, taken after McCartney's time in The Beatles, has seemingly never been seen before. A chance sighting from one fan of the band working at Abbey Road studios has since shed a light on the missing photograph.

Their post to the r/Beatles subreddit has thrilled long-listening members of Fab Four.

Their post reads: "I worked on an album for an artist in Abbey Road a few years ago, and I saw this picture of McCartney getting his lunch in the canteen hung on the wall in the same canteen, I also haven’t seen this picture available anywhere on the Internet so enjoy!"

Fans have since praised the original poster of the image, saying that their rare find is the reason they keep returning to the Reddit fan group.

They wrote: "I’ll say it again, this is why I love this sub. I’ve been a fan for a big chunk of my life and I’m constantly seeing photos of these guys that I never had before."

Another suggested: "Have a look on Pinterest - I thought I had seen most photos of The Fabs in my 50 years, and close to a thousand books, but I have spent several evenings on Pinterest going through the inexhaustible amount of Beatles photos on there."

Other users were appreciative of the photo, but were concerned at McCartney's selection of food items.

One joked: "That's a lot of beverage! Milk, juice, cocktail?" Another wrote: "I think the bowl in the front corner of the tray, the one with the dollop in it, may be chilli or stew with sour cream? Either way, very liquidy!"

Some have seemingly found the reason for the haul of beverages, with one user suggesting McCartney's wife and fellow musician, Linda McCartney, can be seen behind him.

A user observed: "It looks like Linda is behind him in line. Our chivalrous lover boy Paul is taking care of the order." Another added: "Somewhat explains the amount of beverages."

Fans are now trying to place the year the photo was taken, with the hairstyle seemingly a dead giveaway as to when the photograph was taken. One user wrote: "The post-Beatles mullet look. About 75 or 76?"

Another added: "Looks like Wings era McCartney, Speed of Sound maybe? Thanks for the pic!" A third wrote: "Clearly from the Wings period, judging by the hairstyle and clothing." McCartney is set to celebrate two Wings-related anniversaries this year.

A 50th anniversary release of Venus and Mars was launched today (March 28), while his thoughts on the band will be published in an autobiography set for release later this year.
