Having already made a name for himself through various band projects, including Luxembourg’s beloved indie outfit TUYS, musician Yann Gengler is stepping out on his own with the launch of his solo venture: Sunny Gloom.

Drawing inspiration from grunge and raw alternative rock, the project marks a shift in tone and a deeper dive into personal songwriting and sonic experimentation.

With Sunny Gloom, Gengler aims to merge the diverse genres he’s explored throughout his career, while putting a strong focus on music built for the live stage. More than just a sound, the project is intended as a complete experience, one that’s both musical and visual.

The first taste of this new chapter arrives on March 28th with the release of the debut single, also titled Sunny Gloom. The track is a moody, metaphor-laden exploration of inner emotional conflict. Using the window as a metaphor for the eyes and the room as the mind, the lyrics capture the weight of unspoken feelings and the release that comes from finally letting them out. Heavy raindrops fall like pent-up emotions, while opening the window becomes a moment of catharsis.
By leaning into lyrical metaphors and emotionally driven themes, Gengler sets the tone for a project that feels both intimate and immersive.

This solo release comes hot on the heels of a busy stretch with TUYS, who are currently riding high following the February release of their latest EP, ◑◐◐. The new record captures a more instinctive, experimental side of the band, blending chiming guitars, lush synths, and psych-pop flair. TUYS are also celebrating their 18th anniversary with a hometown headline show at Rotondes on May 2nd, sharing the stage with C’est Karma, Maz, and Falvous, and have just been announced for USINA Festival 2025 alongside dEUS and Fil Bo Riva.

For Gengler, Sunny Gloom represents a more personal outlet but one that naturally complements the creative momentum he’s built with TUYS.

Sunny Gloom, the single, is out now on all major streaming platforms.
