Sophomore goalkeeper Catherine Bunting made seven saves and posted her first shutout in her first career start to lead the Indian River High School girls’ soccer team to a 2-0 victory at Sussex Central on Tuesday, March 25, in the season and Henlopen Conference opener for both squads.
Freshman midfielder Grace Clark gave the Indians (1-0) a 1-0 lead when she broke a scoreless tie in the 15th minute of the first half with her first career goal at IRHS. Junior forward Ella Peterson, the team’s leading scorer a year ago, added insurance with her first goal of the season in the 64th minute.
The Indians outshot the Golden Knights, 10-7, in the season-opener for both squads.
