What began as a seemingly promising spark between Sofia Vergara and Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton now appears to be running out of steam.
Just weeks after their much-publicized dinner date in New York City, reports claim the relationship has cooled significantly, leaving Vergara more invested than Hamilton and hoping for a connection that may not be reciprocated.
The 52-year-old Modern Family alum was spotted in January dining alongside Hamilton and some of his close friends, igniting a flurry of excitement among fans and insiders alike.
Those close to Vergara were optimistic she had found a new romantic interest worthy of her attention after a string of high-profile breakups.
"Sofia thought Lewis was perfect boyfriend material and quite a catch," a source told RadarOnline.com. "She likes a high-profile romance and was keen on him, but it's cooled off."
After joining Hamilton for dinner in Manhattan, friends believed she was genuinely captivated. Described as glowing during their outing, Vergara had many convinced that she'd found a worthy match in the British racing icon.
Communication breakdown and one-sided interest
However, the situation appears to have changed quickly. Insiders say that while the two are still in contact, it's become apparent that the communication is largely one-sided, with Vergara taking the lead.
"She's the one keeping in touch and hoping for more - while getting little in return," one insider explained.
Though the relationship never reached official status, Vergara had seemingly held out hope it would evolve into something more substantial.
"Obviously, the buzz has worn off for him," the source added. "Lewis is lukewarm about her and not responding the way lovers do. She's feeling let down."
The actress has faced her share of relationship turbulence in the past year. Her marriage to Magic Mike star Joe Manganiello ended in July 2023 after seven years, and her brief romance with orthopedic surgeon Justin Saliman reportedly came to a close by fall.
For Vergara, who remains one of Hollywood's most glamorous figures, the hope was that Hamilton, 12 years her junior, might be a fresh chapter in her love life.
"She hoped Lewis would be her next prize, but it's not going to happen, and she just has to face it," the insider continued. "It's a shame because she likes the younger guys and had no problem with the 12-year age difference."
