Loose Women star Denise Welch says she couldn't be happier about her son Matty Healy's engagement to model and musician Gabbriette Bechtel, assuring that her future daughter-in-law has her seal of approval.

Chatting exclusively at the Royal Television Society Awards, the proud mum-of-two, 66, shared: "I love my future daughter in love, I love Gabbriette very, very much, she's amazing and we're so happy for them on the engagement." Continuing to say that she's planning a trip to visit the loved-up couple at their Los Angeles home soon, saying, "We're going go out to see them in April."

The 1975 guitarist Matty, who has acclaimed global success in the band, was reportedly in a romance with pop superstar Taylor Swift just months before going public with Gabbriette in late 2023. The pair made waves when they stepped out together in September and then sent fans into a frenzy by announcing their engagement in June 2024, with Gabbriette flaunting her black engagement ring on Instagram.

At the time, Gabbriette wrote to Instagram: "MARRYING THE 1975 IS VERY BRAT @trumanblack," nodding to Charli XCX's hit album, reports the Mirror.

Denise, who also has a younger son Louis making waves in the acting world, is over the moon with her kids' success. Louis is currently starring in the West End production of Stranger Things On Stage, and Denise is his number one fan, admitting, "My youngest son is playing the lead in Stranger Things, so I seem to go and see that every week - I love it!".

"I'm really proud, we've always encouraged the boys to do anything they want to do and to see them be so successful is all you want as a parent."

While Denise may struggle to see her eldest Matty regularly due to his stateside residence, she will be happy to see him return to the UK this summer to headline Glastonbury festival with his band.

Earlier this month, the full line-up was revealed with The 1975, Charli xcx, Alanis Morissette, Biffy Clyro, Doechii, RAYE, Sir Rod Stewart, Neil Young and more headlining. As a proud mum, Denise took to her Instagram grid and stories at the time to share her delight over the announcement.
