Denise Welch gushes over son Matty Healy's 'amazing' fiancé Gabbriette Bechtel

Denise Welch has gushed over her 'amazing future daughter in law' Gabbriette Bechtel, after son Matty Healy announced his engagement to the model in summer last year.

Denise Welch has revealed that her son Matty Healy's fiancée Gabbriette Bechtel has firmly got her seal of approval, as she gushed over the model and musician.

Talking at the Royal Television Society Awards, Denise, 66, told Mirror, "I love my future daughter in love, I love Gabbriette very, very much, she's amazing and we're so happy for them on the engagement."

Adding that she will be paying Matty and his other half's Los Angeles pad a visit soon, Denise continued, "We're going go out to see them in April.

We try to go when we can between work and my husband's work in art." The 1975 guitarist Matty, who has acclaimed global success in the band, was reportedly in a romance with pop superstar Taylor Swift just months before going public with Gabbriette in late 2023.

The couple were first seen together in September that year, before announcing their engagement just nine months later in June 2024 - with Gabbriette sharing a picture of her ring to Instagram.

At the time, she wrote across the image: “MARRYING THE 1975 IS VERY BRAT @trumanblack," in reference to Charli XCX's latest album.

Alongside Matty, Denise is mum to younger son Louis, who has also followed in her footsteps with a career in showbusiness and is currently appearing in London's West End show Stranger Things On Stage.

Gushing over her successful children, Denise said, "My youngest son is playing the lead in Stranger Things, so I seem to go and see that every week - I love it!

"I'm really proud, we've always encouraged the boys to do anything they want to do and to see them be so successful is all you want as a parent."

While Denise may struggle to see her eldest Matty regularly due to his stateside residence, she will be happy to see him return to the UK this summer to headline Glastonbury festival with his band.

Earlier this month, the full line-up was revealed with The 1975, Charli xcx, Alanis Morissette, Biffy Clyro, Doechii, RAYE, Sir Rod Stewart, Neil Young and more headlining. As a proud mum, Denise took to her Instagram grid and stories at the time to share her delight over the announcement.

Look who's headlining on the Friday!!! Popping out to buy some wellies." She also captioned the same photo on her grid: "I guess I'll be going to my first UK festival!!!"
