GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) - We’re warm, and our warmth will get warmer before cooler weather arrives this weekend.

Record Warmth Possible

Wednesday will be even warmer than Tuesday. The forecast high for Wednesday is 80 degrees. That will be a first 80-degree day of the season and just one degree from tying the record high of 81 degrees. Thursday will be even warmer still. The forecast high is 82 degrees. That would break the record for the date of 78 degrees.

Turning Cooler with Showers This Weekend

Friday will cool by 5-10 degrees coming off of that warm Thursday. That cooling will come with more clouds on Friday. Rain showers will become possible Friday night through Saturday. The showers will be scattered about the area. The scattered nature of the showers will leave some areas dry, but some of us can get a little bit of moisture. The weekend will turn even cooler by another 5-10 degrees. That means highs in the 60s for a lot of us.

Our Weather Setup

Until then, high pressure is the main influence on our weather. It’s centered west of us and expanding to the north on Tuesday. It will begin to shift to the east on Wednesday afternoon. The wind flow in the middle and upper layers of the atmosphere will begin shifting as a result. That wind flow will be from the south or southwest, which will add to the warmth and send us toward that near-record warmth. The high pressure slipping off our east makes room for that next low pressure circulation and its trailing cold front to track inland from the Pacific Ocean, and it will move toward us Friday night and Saturday.

Our Next 24 Hours

This evening will be clear. We’ll cool from low-to-mid 70s at 6 PM to low-to-mid 60s at 8 PM, then to mid-to-upper 50s at 10 PM. The rest of tonight will be clear. Low temperatures will be near 45 degrees around Grand Junction, 38 degrees around Montrose, 39 degrees around Delta, 34 degrees around Cortez, and 41 degrees around Moab. Wednesday will be sunny with more clouds by late afternoon. We’ll warm from low-to-mid 40s at 7 AM to mid-to-upper 60s at noon, then to mid-to-upper 70s at 3 PM. High temperatures will be near 80 degrees around Grand Junction, 75 degrees around Montrose, 80 degrees around Delta, 76 degrees around Cortez, and 79 degrees around Moab.
