DENVER — A day after losing Petr Mrazek to injury, the Detroit Red Wings called up goaltending prospect Sebastian Cossa.

The team listed the call-up as under emergency conditions, because Cam Talbot was unavailable for Tuesday's game at Ball Arena against the Colorado Avalanche for undisclosed reasons. Talbot had been slated to start, but instead, Alex Lyon was pushed to duty for a second consecutive night.

Lyon was in net for Monday's 5-1 victory at Utah Hockey Club, taking over after Mrazek suffered an undisclosed injury 1:36 into the game.

Detroit Red Wings goaltender Sebastian Cossa (33) looks for the puck during the second period against the Buffalo Sabres at KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York, on Monday, Dec. 9, 2024.

This is Cossa's second stint of the season with the Wings. The No. 15 selection from the 2021 draft won his NHL debut on Dec. 9 against the Buffalo Sabres, including turning away two of three shootout attempts.

Cossa, 22, has posted a 19-11-5 record with a 2.38 goals-against average, a 0.913 save percentage and one shutout in 35 appearances with the Griffins during the 2024-25 season. Cossa spent the entire 2023-24 campaign with the Griffins, logging a 22-9-9 record with a 2.41 goals-against average, a 0.913 save percentage and two shutouts in 40 regular-season appearances.

The Wings expect to know about Mrazek's status after they return home on Wednesday. They play again Thursday at Little Caesars Arena against the Ottawa Senators.
