Bears, beets, Battlestar Galactica!

Across its nine seasons, The Office cultivated superfans who became enthralled in the everyday lives of the Dunder Mifflin branch employees.

Premiering on NBC on March 24, 2005, Greg Daniels' 9-to-5 mockumentary comedy series — based on Ricky Gervais' British original — captured the hijinks and humdrum of working in the bullpen of a Scranton, Pa., paper company, where regional manager Michael Scott (Steve Carell) desperately tries to live up to his self-appointed title as "World's Best Boss."

Though its rocky debut season nearly sent it to the shredder, The Office found its footing on season 2 — eventually earning five Emmys and nine Golden Globe nominations. The Peabody Award-winning show also catapulted the careers of Carell, John Krasinski, Mindy Kaling, Ed Helms and more.

After leaving Netflix in 2020, all 201 episodes (and extended "superfan episodes") launched exclusively on Peacock. The streaming service is furthering the legacy of the workplace comedy with The Paper, an upcoming spinoff set at a faltering Midwestern newspaper. The series will reportedly star Domhnall Gleeson, Sabrina Impacciatore, Chelsea Frei, Ramona Young, Melvin Gregg, Alex Edelman and more, with former Office cast member Oscar Nuñez gearing up to reprise his role.

So, as we celebrate 20 years of The Office and look forward to its next evolution, let's check in with the OG cast since they last clocked out of Dunder Mifflin.

Carell has become one of Hollywood's most beloved actors since appearing on The Office's first seven seasons (plus the series finale) as Dunder Mifflin's former head, Michael. Though the role helped establish his career — and earned him nine Emmy nominations as a producer and actor — Carell has confirmed he won't return for the Office spinoff.

"I will be watching, but I will not be showing up. It's just a new thing, and there's really no reason for my character to show up in something like that," Carell told The Hollywood Reporter in 2024. "But I'm excited about it; it sounds like a great conceit. I love the idea."

While he became known for his comedic chops, Carell took a more dramatic turn in 2014's Foxcatcher (for which he received his first Academy Award nomination) and again in the 2018 films Beautiful Boy and Welcome to Marwen. He also starred on the first two seasons of Apple TV+'s The Morning Show (for which he earned an acting Emmy nomination in 2020), Netflix's Space Force and FX's The Patient. He also voices the villainous Gru in the Despicable Me film franchise and Minions spinoffs.

Carell has been married to actress Nancy Walls — who also appeared on The Office as real estate agent Carol Stills — since 1995. They share two kids: daughter Annie and son John.

Krasinski — in the role of underworked sales rep Jim — spent nine seasons pulling pranks on Dunder Mifflin employees. The actor told PEOPLE in 2024 that a return for the spinoff isn't off the table.

"They haven't asked, but the truth is, I'd do anything Greg Daniels asked me to do," he said.

After leaving The Office, Krasinski shed his dorky, boy-next-door image and became a bona fide sex symbol: He has starred as CIA analyst Jack Ryan on the Prime Video revival of Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan since 2018 and was named PEOPLE's Sexiest Man Alive in 2024.

Like Carell, Krasinski also ventured into more dramatic film roles, including 13 Hours (2016), Detroit (2017) and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022), while also sharing his familiar voice in the animated movies Monsters University (2013), Animal Crackers (2017) and DC League of Super-Pets (2022).

In addition to his on-camera roles, Krasinski has achieved acclaim as a director and producer. He directed films like A Quiet Place (2018), A Quiet Place Part II (2020) and IF (2024) and received four Emmy nominations for producing the series Lip Sync Battle and Curses!

In 2010, he and actress Emily Blunt — with whom he costars in A Quiet Place franchisetied the knot. The couple has since welcomed two daughters, Hazel and Violet.

Jenna Fischer played Pam, Jim's love interest and everyone's favorite receptionist, before transitioning to sales and office coordinator. While the actress "has not been approached" to appear in the new spinoff, she has remained close to her former castmates.

"We have a text thread. It's called Office Peeps, and we all text on it, send pictures and updates and all the things you have on a text thread," she told PEOPLE in 2024. "We just have our text thread. But then, we all run into each other and get together on the side."

After The Office, Fischer starred opposite Oliver Hudson on the ABC sitcom Splitting Up Together for two seasons. Fischer has also appeared in a few films since, including Brad's Status (2017), The 15:17 to Paris (2018) and Mean Girls (2024). Additionally, she and former Office costar Angela Kinsey started the podcast Office Ladies and co-wrote the 2022 book Office BFFs: Tales of The Office from Two Best Friends Who Were There.

Fischer was previously married to writer and director James Gunn, whom she separated from in 2007 after more than six years together. Since 2010, she has been married to screenwriter Lee Kirk. The couple have two children — son Weston Lee and daughter Harper Marie.

In 2024, Fischer revealed she was diagnosed with breast cancer a year prior and became cancer-free after going through 12 rounds of chemotherapy.

It's hard to imagine Rainn Wilson playing anyone except the neurotic office worker and beet farmer, as he was able to fully embrace the role of the self-proclaimed assistant to the regional manager by channeling his "really miserable experience" on Broadway years prior.

"It helped me find my authentic voice, which is, you know, a little, little left of center," he said during a 2024 appearance on Good Trouble with Nick Kyrgios. "Dwight and Rainn, both are kind of socially awkward and don't fit in and have kind of a skewed way of seeing the world."

Wilson has maintained a steady acting career in the years following The Office, most notably making guest appearances on the series Star Trek: Discovery, Room 104, Transparent and The Rookie, as well as a lead role on Utopia and recurring roles on Mom, Dark Winds and Lessons in Chemistry. He has also voiced Superman's arch-nemesis, Lex Luthor, in several animated projects.

Wilson has been married to writer Holiday Reinhorn since 1995, and they share a son named Walter McKenzie.

While starring as the Cornell grad and sales associate on The Office, Helms found box office success in The Hangover trilogy (where he also showed off his impressive singing voice!). Though he's most recognized for those two roles, Helms revealed Andy is the one that stands out more.

"At this point, it's probably more Andy from The Office, just because that show has had such ridiculous staying power," he told PEOPLE in 2021. "So many more young people are watching it, people that weren't even born when that show was on the air. It just seems to always be bubbling up."

After The Office finale, Helms starred in several films, including comedies like Vacation (2015), Tag (2018) and Family Switch (2023). Helms also co-created and starred on the Peacock sitcom Rutherford Falls in 2021.

Since 2022, Helms has co-hosted his iHeartPodcast about history's biggest blunders (SNAFU with Ed Helms) and wrote a book inspired by it (Snafu: The Definitive Guide to History's Greatest Screwups), which hits shelves on April 29, 2025.

Helms is married with children, though he has never publicly disclosed their names. During a 2024 episode of The Daily Show: Ears Edition podcast, he told comedian Jordan Klepper that he has "little kids now."

B.J. Novak as Ryan Howard

B.J. Novak started as a writer on the sitcom but stepped in front of the camera as the sleazy office temp, Ryan.

Since The Office (for which he received five Emmy nominations as a producer), he has continued acting and writing. In 2014, he released a collection of short stories titled One More Thing: Stories and Other Stories. He also appeared in supporting roles in Saving Mr. Banks (2013), The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014) and The Founder (2016) — and wrote, directed and starred in the 2022 comedy film Vengeance.

Novak and former Office costar Mindy Kaling are longtime friends, and he's godfather to Kaling's three children.

Mindy Kaling as Kelly Kapoor

Much like her friend Novak, Kaling transitioned from the writers' room to in front of the camera on The Office, starring as the fan-favorite customer service agent, a role she'd consider reprising on the new spinoff.

"It's been such a long time since I've acted as Kelly Kapoor that I'm like, 'Oh, I'd have to get into character' — not to sound method," she told PEOPLE in 2024. "For that group of people, I would definitely – I'd be open to it."

After The Office, Kaling starred on the sitcom The Mindy Project and created a slew of comedy series for Netflix (Champions, Never Have I Ever and Running Point) and Max (The Sex Lives of College Girls). She also lent her instantly recognizable voice to the animated projects Wreck-It Ralph (2012), Mr. Peabody & Sherman (2014), Inside Out (2015) and Velma — and starred in films like A Wrinkle in Time (2018), Ocean's 8 (2018) and Late Night (2019).

Kaling has three children: daughters Katherine Swati and Anne and son Spencer Avu.

Kinsey starred as the petite, cat-loving accountant on the show, and she wasn't afraid to stand up for her character, Angela, when challenging the writers on certain jokes.

"There were one or two times in which there would be a joke written for her that I thought was just really stereotypical, maybe one note," she said during a 2024 appearance on Wilson's Soul Boom podcast. "I like to think of her as a full, well-rounded person."

In 2018, she made a guest appearance on Splitting Up Together with Fischer before launching their podcast. She has also made guest appearances on shows like New Girl, Fresh Off the Boat, The Real O'Neals and A.P. Bio and starred on the Netflix series Haters Back Off. Kinsey also appeared in the Netflix films Tall Girl (2019) and Tall Girl 2 (2022) and made her Lifetime debut in Confessions of a Christmas Letter (2024), which featured a cameo from her former Office costar, Brian Baumgartner.

In 2016, Kinsey married actor and baker Joshua Snyder. She was previously married to writer and producer Warren Lieberstein (brother of Paul Lieberstein, who plays Toby on The Office), with whom she shares a daughter.

Ellie Kemper took the same cheerful attitude she used as the temporary receptionist Erin on The Office and applied it to her titular role on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, which earned her two Emmy nominations. She also frequently reunites with her former Office costars, both on-screen and off, including a three-episode stint as Heather alongside Kaling on The Mindy Project.

"It's really nice to have formed that bond with all the actors on the show and the crew as well," Kemper told Business Insider in 2019. "Both The Office and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt were really nice workplaces, so I feel lucky to have been able to work with such kind people."

The actress also appeared on the big screen in Bridesmaids (2011), Home Sweet Home Alone (2021) and Happiness for Beginners (2023). She has voiced animated characters in films such as The Secret Life of Pets (2016) and its 2019 sequel, The Lego Batman Movie (2017) and Smurfs: The Lost Village (2017).

Kemper is a mother of two children with husband Michael Koman.

Leslie David Baker played the grumpy salesman (and crossword puzzle enthusiast) Stanley for nine seasons of The Office — and he's grateful to be recognized for it.

"I know you hear some celebrities say, 'It's a bother when people call me by my character name. It's a bother when people are talking about the show I did this many years ago,' " he told the Los Angeles Times in 2025. "It's an honor and a privilege to have that type of recognition."

Baker traded Stanley's unenthusiastic attitude for a more upbeat tone on Puppy Dog Pals, lending his voice to the animated furry friends Frank and Rufus from 2017 to 2023. He has also made guest appearances on shows like Marry Me, Scorpion, Life in Pieces and Raven's Home and acted in the films Wish I Was Here (2014), The Happytime Murders (2018) and Jackpot! (2024).

In 2020, Baker launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise money to shoot a pilot for The Office spinoff series Uncle Stan. However, after the project stalled, he refunded the donations in 2023. A year later, the actor reunited with some of his former Office castmates in a few Honey Nut Cheerios commercials.

Phyllis Smith parlayed her Office role as sales rep Phyllis Lapin-Vance into other memorable parts, including a critically acclaimed turn as the voice of Sadness in the 2015 Pixar film Inside Out and the 2024 sequel. Smith also had a recurring role on Netflix's The OA. She landed credits for 2010's Bad Teacher and 2021's Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar, as well as on the sitcoms Trophy Wife and The Middle.

However, despite her diverse career, Smith still considers The Office one of her greatest gigs.

"One of the things that Steve [Carell] said, you know, back where we would get our hair and makeup done on stage there ... 'I think this is going to be the best show we ever do,' " she said on the 2024 episode "An Interview with Phyllis Smith" on the Office Ladies podcast. "He said something to that effect. It was like around the first season, you know, and I think he was right."

When The Office wrapped, Baumgartner initially "wanted to distance" himself from the not-so-bright accountant Kevin — but he remains grateful for the experience.

"The Office being 10 years, nine seasons, I mean, I was essentially on the show the entirety of my thirties," he told Entertainment Weekly in 2022. "I consider it a blessing, especially the amazing fans who talk about how The Office gave them comfort, how it helped them during a difficult time. I mean, countless stories, way more than I can mention. That's an amazing thing."

Baumgartner has acted steadily since, making guest appearances on Hot in Cleveland, Mike & Molly, Criminal Minds, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Chicago Fire and The Goldbergs, among many others. He's also a voice actor on the Netflix series Trash Truck and reunited with Office costar Kinsey in Confessions of a Christmas Letter.

Like Kinsey and Fischer, Baumgartner launched multiple Office-related podcastsAn Oral History of The Office for Spotify and The Office Deep Dive with Brian Baumgartner for iHeart Radio. He also co-wrote the 2024 book The Night Before Christmas at Dunder Mifflin.

Since 2014, he's been married to Celeste Ackelson.

After getting her start in the comedy world, Kate Flannery made a lasting impression on The Office by playing the party-loving Meredith, who worked in supplier relations.

"The Office changed comedy; it changed TV. I mean, it changed sitcoms," Flannery told Today in 2020. "I also think that there's so many relatable characters, and the mundaneness of a day-to-day workplace has never quite been honored in the way that it has on our show."

Since then, she has bounced between making guest roles on various TV shows (including Brooklyn Nine-Nine, New Girl, American Housewife, Young Sheldon and Magnum P.I.), appearing in digital shorts and lending her voice to several video games and animated series like Steven Universe. Flannery also competed on season 28 of Dancing with the Stars (finishing in seventh place) and season 11 of The Masked Singer (placing in eighth).

Flannery met her longtime boyfriend, entertainment photographer Chris Haston, on the set of The Office.

Nuñez was already an established comedian before stepping into the reserved yet sharp-witted accountant Oscar — a role he'll reprise on the spinoff, The Paper. Over the years, the actor has praised The Office for standing the test of time.

"It holds up, 'cause it's just so well written," he told Today in 2020. "And then the cast was really good. If the cast sucked, but it was well written, or if the cast was great, and it wasn't well written, we can't do anything if we don't have material."

Following the show, Nuñez scored plenty of TV gigs on shows such as Benched, People of Earth, Mr. Iglesias and Lucky Hank. He's also known for his performances on the big screen in Baywatch (2017), Disenchanted (2022), The Lost City — featuring his former The Proposal costar, Sandra Bullock — and Dashing Through the Snow (2023).

Since 2011, he has been married to actress Ursula Whittaker, with whom he shares a daughter.

Lieberstein played the HR manager Toby, but he also served as a writer, director, executive producer and showrunner at various points throughout the series' nine-season run.

"It's hard to say exactly why this show is still finding people and speaking to people. People are finding it for the first time," he told Today in 2020. "I think it's very easily relatable in what an office is, and it's similar to a classroom, where these people come together, and then this is kind of a forced family. And then I think our insistence on maintaining the documentary style created a level of reality that's a little more timeless than most shows."

Since The Office, he's mainly stayed behind the camera as the executive producer on The Newsroom, Ghosted and Space Force. However, he has made guest appearances on shows like Bad Teacher, The Mindy Project and People of Earth; wrote and directed films such as 2018's Song of Back and Neck and 2022's Out of Office and created the series Lucky Hank.

In 2008, Lieberstein and English teacher Janine Serafin Poreba tied the knot at Battery Gardens restaurant in New York.

Craig Robinson's time on The Office as the sarcastic warehouse foreman-turned-shipping manager Darryl still follows him to this day.

"Being on The Office, it's like you're everybody's friend. Everywhere I go somebody is ready to buy you a drink or share a story," he said in 2022 during "The Sting with Craig Robinson" episode of the Office Ladies podcast. "And now people have seen it, you know, nine, 10, 14 times through. … It's just such a blessing to be a part of that."

Since the sitcom launched Robinson into stardom, he's led comedies like 2010's Hot Tub Time Machine and its 2015 sequel. He's also known for his collaborations with actor Seth Rogen, including Knocked Up (2007), Pineapple Express (2008), This Is the End (2013) and Sausage Party (2016).

Apart from his recurring guest role on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Robinson played the title character on NBC's Mr. Robinson, which aired for six episodes. In 2022, he starred on the Peacock series Killing It and voiced Mr. Shark in The Bad Guys (a role he's set to reprise in the 2025 sequel).

Robinson has had several successful endorsement deals and campaigns, appearing in various spots and advertisements for Pizza Hut, Walmart, Procter & Gamble and more.

Creed Bratton became a fan-favorite as an eccentric, fictionalized version of himself as a quality assurance manager on The Office; however, he doesn't plan to join the upcoming spinoff.

"I won't actually be on the new show. I'm just very grateful I was on the original one," Bratton told Rolling Stone in 2024. "I get up every day and think about how lucky I am. But I've done it. Let them go and have their run, make more people laugh."

Since the sitcom went off the air, Bratton has taken on various roles on series such as Adventure Time, Franklin & Bash, Grace and Frankie, Upload and PBC.

Bratton has instead focused more on his music (he is a former member of the rock band the Grass Roots) and has released several albums since The Office finale.

Melora Hardin appeared on over 40 episodes of The Office as Michael's boss and on-again, off-again girlfriend, Jan, across several memorable story arcs.

"The fact that she's not perfect is what makes her really endearing, and that she is struggling and stumbling and falling right on her face in front of you," Hardin said of her Office character to PEOPLE in 2023. "She feels real, and she feels complicated, so that's what I like about her."

A veteran in Hollywood before starring on The Office, Hardin continued her prolific career once she started playing Jan. She appeared on episodes of Gilmore Girls, Outlaw, CSI: Miami, Scandal and The Blacklist. She also had recurring roles on Monk, Transparent and A Million Little Things and was a series regular on Wedding Band and The Bold Type.

Additionally, Hardin appeared in films such as 27 Dresses (2008), 17 Again (2009) and You (2009), which she also directed. In 2008, she made her Broadway debut as Roxie Hart in Chicago and competed on season 30 of Dancing with the Stars, where she made it to the semifinals.

Hardin married actor Gildart Jackson in 1997. They share two daughters.

Rashida Jones had a recurring role as Jim's new love interest, Karen, on season 3 of The Office and made additional guest appearances on subsequent seasons.

"I think my first scene was [with] everybody. It was one of those, like, conference room scenes with Steve [Carell] in front, just being absolutely absurd," she said on SiriusXM's The Jess Cagle Show with Julia Cunningham in 2024. "And I felt like I had won, like, a radio contest or something, 'cause I had watched and loved that show for two seasons, and all of a sudden, I'm like in the room with the people."

Since her short stint on the series, Rashida has had a very successful career as an actress, writer and producer. Some of her films include Cop Out (2010), The Social Network (2010), Our Idiot Brother (2011), Celeste & Jesse Forever (2012) and On the Rocks (2020).

On the small screen, Rashida joined the Parks and Recreation cast as Ann Perkins and starred on the series Angie Tribeca, #BlackAF and Sunny. She will appear on season 7 of Black Mirror. Rashida's writing credits include 2019's Toy Story 4  and the Hulu limited series The Other Black Girl.

In 2018, she co-directed the Netflix documentary Quincy about her father and legendary music producer Quincy Jones, who died in 2024. The doc earned Rashida a Grammy Award for best music film.

Rashida welcomed son Isaiah with Vampire Weekend lead singer Ezra Koenig in 2018.
