Head of state, at 20 years of the largest EU enlargement: Accession will bring Moldova a better life

“Accession will bring Moldova a better life.” Maia Sandu appealed concerning the twentieth anniversary of the peak of EU enlargement.

According to the head of state, the enlargement of the community in 2004 meant “more security and a better life” for the citizens of the ten countries that joined the EU.

“This enlargement has brought 70 million citizens under the EU umbrella, contributing to a larger, more diverse, and prosperous Union. EU enlargement has given new members more security and a better life. In those two decades, real wages have doubled, and poverty levels have been reduced by a factor of two. Life expectancy has increased by four years, from 75 in 2004 to 79 in 2023.

The Deputy Prime Minister for Integration, Cristina Gherasimov, congratulates the ten countries that joined the EU in 2004 on the anniversary. The official from Chisinau expressed confidence that the next celebration will be marked by Moldova joining the Union.
