Spanish utility Naturgy Energy Group SA (BME:NTGY) has secured government approval to install a 225-MW solar farm and associated infrastructure at a site in the region of Castile and Leon, northwestern Spain.

The resolution to grant consent and the construction permit for the project, known as Los Corrales, was published in Spain’s official state gazette on Tuesday.

According to the text, the Los Corrales solar farm will be located in the municipalities of Cuadros and La Robla. It will consist of 350,430 Trina bifacial modules mounted on fixed structures and 750 Huawei inverters with a total capacity of 225 MW.

Los Corrales is an energy transition project, located in an area of Naturgy’s now decommissioned La Robla coal-fired power plant. It is one of three solar projects that the company plans to realise in the municipalities affected by the loss of jobs following the La Robla plant’s closure.

Further projects include building a green hydrogen production plant with a capacity of up to 280 MW in partnership with Spanish gas grid operator Enagas SA (BME:ENG) and the installation of a standalone battery energy storage system.
