New Edition of John Gray’s ‘Blacks in Classical Music: An International Bibliography and Reference Guide’ is Released

Author John Gray has released the second edition of his book “Blacks in Classical Music: An International Bibliography and Reference Guide.”

The new edition is titled “Blacks in Classical Music II: An International Bibliography and Reference Guide.” It featured more than three decades of research which is fully annotated and cross-referenced. It is reorganized into three sections—General Works, Regional Studies, and Biographical and Critical Studies. Chamber and symphonic music is covered as well as sacred and secular vocal music including art songs, concert spirituals, choral music, and opera.

The book expands on geographical coverage which now spans more than 30 American states and nearly 60 foreign countries. Over 600 composers have been added along with singers, instrumentalists, librettists, music educators, and other music professionals. The work concludes with a detailed subject index.
