Nepal Academy of Music and Drama to honour six artistes

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Apr. 24: Nepal Academy of Music and Drama is going to decorate six persons with 'Nepal Music and Drama National Pragya Award-2079'.

The Academy has announced the names of the awardees at a programme held on Sunday.

The Nepal Music and Drama National Pragya Award-2079 will be presented to senior singer and musician Ganesh Rasik in music category, Nabin Kishore Rai in folk music category, and Bijay Kumar Shrestha in traditional and classical music category.

Likewise, senior drama director Bhairav Chhetri and dramatist Prof. Dr. Ramchandra Pokharel will be awarded under the stage category and drama category respectively. 

Senior folk dancer Kulman Nepali will be presented the award under dance category. 

Kusma Mahara (Pragati), member secretary of the  Academy, informed that each awardee will be presented a cash prize of Rs. 1,00,000. She also said that President Ramchandra Paudel will present the award to the winners. 

Addressing the programme, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Sudan Kirati said that the campaign to awaken the people through songs and music could make a significant contribution to safeguarding the republican set up, and now a big campaign should be launched in the field of culture. 

He also said that the government was preparing to introduce new programmes in its upcoming policy document. 

Nisha Sharma, Chancellor of the Academy, informed that the Lifetime Achievement Award will be given to a distinguished creator.
