EAPCCO Games: Hakizimana on target as Rwanda Police beat Burundi

Tuesday Football: RNP 3-1 PNB Volleyball: RNP 3-0 PNB Forward Muhajiri Hakizimana was on target as host Rwanda National Police Football team registered their first victory in the 4th edition of the Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (EAPCCO) Games after beating beat Police National du Burundi (PNB) 3-1 on Tuesday, March 21, at Kigali Pele Stadium. Hakizimana, who was denied callup in Carlos Alos Ferrer’s Amavubi squad for Benin AFCON qualifiers, opened the scoring for the home side in the opening five minutes of the game before the Burundian side canceled the lead in the 27th minute through Titi Hakizimana. Striker Didier Mugisha and Bosco Kayitaba scored a goal each in the second half to seal the well-deserved victory for the hosts. Kayitaba, who came in for Mugisha, put his name on the score sheet with his first touch when he utilized the corner kick to head in the third goal. Meanwhile, Police Volleyball Club comfortably beat their Burundian Police opponents with three straight sets (25-17, 25-20, 25-22) in a match held at BK Arena. ALSO READ: Things you need to know as 2023 EAPCCO Games kick-off The week-long interforce tournament will attract participants from eight EAPCCO member countries that will compete in 13 sports disciplines namely football, handball, netball, volleyball, beach volleyball, basketball, athletics, darts, Karate, Taekwondo, Judo, boxing, and shooting. Rwanda National Police (RNP) will have at least a representative in each of the sports disciplines. Other countries represented in the games include Burundi, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Sudan, South Sudan, and Ethiopia.
