DAVAO CITY—The Department of Education in Sarangani and a school and local government in Davao del Sur were the recipients of a donation of radio antenna and repeaters to boost their respective communication capabilities.
In Alabel town, Sarangani, the provincial government turned over 100 units of antennas to the Department of Education-Sarangani Division to boost the DepEd’s Learning Resources on Wifi Hub for Expanded e-Learning in Sarangani or LR on Wheels.
The antennas cost P150,000 each and would be mounted on the vehicles of the DepEd used as LR on Wheels in Sarangani.
LR on Wheels is an innovation of DepEd Sarangani to make electronic, or online, learning possible for villages outside the service coverage of major telecommunication companies and Internet service providers.
The provincial information office said the antenna system “utilizes an offline learning management system broadcast over an access point through an intranet where learners can hook their gadgets in order to access learning materials like digital copies of learning modules, interactive worksheets, and videos.”
The LR on Wheels project in Sarangani was launched in 2020 to eliminate the problem of Internet connection, and to support the digitalization of today’s learning process. This innovation was being replicated in other parts of the country like South Cotabato, Batangas and Palawan.
In Davao del Sur, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) XI distributed radio repeaters and immuno-analyzer equipment to Sulop town, Davao del Sur.
The equipment were turned over to DOST XI’s partner, the Cor Jesu College-Br. Polycarp iComDev Foundation Inc. (CJC–BPICDFI) and the municipal government of Sulop.
The DOST and CJC–BPICDFI team installed the radio repeater at the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office building of Sulop to provide information and safety advice to the public in times of emergency and disasters.
A radio repeater extends the range of a portable or mobile radio system. If placed at a high elevation, it connects two mobile stations that would otherwise be out of each other’s line-of-sight propagation range.
The DOST XI said the equipment hopes to strengthen the communication capability of Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDAs) and Marginalized Communities in Sulop to combat poverty and improve their quality of life.
