Ciara and Russell Wilson sign first-look TV and film production deal with Amazon Studios: 'We can't wait to begin our work together'

He's an NFL Super Bowl champion and she's a Grammy-winning singer-actress.

And together, as a team, Russell Wilson and wife Ciara have signed a first-look deal to develop and produce scripted series and films for Amazon through their Why Not You Productions.

The Seattle Seahawks star had previously teamed with Amazon's CEO Jeff Bezos, when he invested in Wilson's social networking startup TraceMe, which eventually was bought by Nike.

Amazon has become a major player in entertainment with an array of original content in recent years. 

'We're so excited and honored to work with Amazon Studios,' the couple said in a joint statement on Tuesday, May 11. 

'They've quickly become one of the most exciting studios in entertainment and have shown a strong belief in our vision to bring inspiring stories to the world. We can't wait to begin our work together.'  

Wilson, who now holds the record for most wins by an NFL quarterback through nine seasons with 98, also took to Twitter to share his enthusiasm.

'Why not You Productions!!! Let's go!!! Such a blessing! @WhyNotYouProd @AmazonStudios @Ciara,' he wrote.

The head of Amazon Studios, Jennifer Salke, called the Wilsons 'a true powerhouse producing duo' with success in their respective careers, as well as in business and philanthropy.  

'We share a passion for developing diverse and emotionally connecting stories that can inspire the world and spread positivity and hope. Our world certainly needs it,' Salke added, according to Variety.     

The couple are just the latest talent to ink a first-look deal with Amazon. Some of the others already on the roster include Michael B. Jordan, Lizzo, Margot Robbie, Donald Glover, Forest Whitaker, Connie Britton and Phoebe Waller-Bridge, among others. 

Wilson, who's entering his tenth season, has been among the top stars of the NFL; appearing in two Super Bowls as the Seahawks' quarterback, resulting in one title.

Not to be overshadowed, Ciara has released seven studio albums since 2004, selling more than 23 million records and 22 million singles worldwide. She went on to make her film debut in 2006's All You've Got.

Since marrying in 2016, the Wilsons have been taking major strides in becoming power players in entertainment and philanthropy.   

By 2019, they launched Why Not Me Productions, which has a mission 'to inspire the world through storytelling' and a vision 'to share entertaining and educational stories that create a sense of wonder, hope, and limitless possibility in a global audience.'  

'When people look at me, I hope they don't just see a football player. I hope they see a person who is innovative and creative, someone who builds something from nothing,' he told The Hollywood Reporter around the the time of the launch.

'We want to be able to impact lives. That's what we want to do at the end of the day — even from the kids space. We just want to tell stories that connect with the world and to the emotions.' 

In addition to their respective careers and business ventures, the Wilsons run the Why Not You Foundation, a nonprofit where Ciara is also a board member, to focus on motivating and empowering young kids.
