A Coventry City fan has raised nearly £1,000 for a charity based in Africa known for their love of all things Sky Blue.

Cefovid Uganda is a children's charity which aims to tackle poverty and improve living conditions in Kosovo, a small under-privileged region in the city Kampala.

And York-based Lee Cowell decided to undertake the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge in a bid to raise funds for the charity, which has gained popularity among Coventry City fans on social media.

Lee, originally from Bedworth, undertook the challenge along with partner Helen Smith, completing a 26-mile walk that takes on three of the largest mountains in the Yorkshire Dales.

In the process they managed to raise enough money to supply six clean water pipes in Kosovo, which has become known on Twitter as ‘little Coventry’.

Speaking of the fundraiser, Lee said: “We have been following the efforts of Ronald and the team at Cefovid Uganda over the past year and really wanted to do more to help the kids there.

"We hoped to raise enough money for three water pipes, which cost around £150 each, but have been delighted that we have been able to supply six.”

The 40-year-old is a member of the Northern Sky Blues, a newly formed supporters club that helped raise over £3,500, and arranged kits and boots to be sent to Uganda, earlier in the season.

Ronald Kamoga, founder of Cefovid and passionate Sky Blues fan, said: “A huge, huge thank you to Lee and Helen for their efforts.

“The money will be used to supply clean water for six families that otherwise would not have access to it and our thanks as always go out to the people of Coventry whose support means so much to us.”

Lee added: "We are only £100 from being able to supply a seventh water pipe and hopefully we still may achieve that.
