FORMER Warriors coach Rahman Gumbo has retraced his steps back to Botswana, where he has signed a two-year contract with Sua Flamingoes FC.

Gumbo’s last local job was at TelOne, who were relegated from the Premier Soccer League at the end of the 2019 season and he had vowed to stay with the club to try and help them regain their topflight status.

Sua Flamingoes, promoted to the Botswana Premier League last year, yesterday confirmed the appointment of Gumbo as their head coach.

“Sua Flamingoes wishes to announce the appointment of Rahman Allen Gumbo to the position of head coach on a two-year contract. On behalf of all stakeholders, we welcome and wish him a pleasant stay,” read the statement posted on the club’s official Facebook page.

Gumbo previously won a league title with Township Rollers in the neighbouring country and also has two titles with his boyhood club Highlanders locally.

The former Warriors gaffer also won a league title with Malawi’s MTN Wanderers.

He also had a stint with Gaborone United and also coached FC Platinum, Caps United, and Chicken Inn back home.

At Gaborone United in 2015, he won the Mascom Top 8 in a tightly-contested final, beating his former teammate at Highlanders and the Warriors, Madinda Ndlovu’s Township Rollers.

Rush, as he is affectionately known, was appointed Warriors coach in 2005 following the departure of Sunday Chidzambga.

He was, however, relieved of his duties after the Warriors got an embarrassing drubbing by Nigeria, only to be reappointed manager of the senior national team in 2012. In 2019, he was once again appointed Warriors coach on an interim basis.
