A recap of the best local games on Friday-Saturday, April 2-3:
In one of the big softball games of the weekend, San Marino took an early lead in the Rio Hondo League championship race with a 3-1 upset over host La Canada on Friday.
Claire Streeter turned in an impressive effort, throwing a no-hitter, striking out 10 while allowing an unearned run.
That unearned run came in the bottom of the first inning when La Canada’s Nicole Wong took advantage of a wild pitch by Streeter and crossed the plate safely.
San Marino took the lead in the top of the third inning on the strength of error by Spartans third baseman Reese Ramseyer that scored Kinu Takasugi and a single by Jessica VanFossan that brought in Charis Chung.
The Titans padded their advantage in the sixth inning when Bella Escobar connected on a single that scored Macy Mooney.
La Canada’s Devyn Cox yielded only one earned run on seven hits and struck out nine but suffered the loss.
San Marino will take this week off before resuming league action with a home game against South Pasadena, April 13. La Canada will host Immaculate Heart on Saturday.
