Greek jazz, Parisian tunes and 80s hits

Since the re-opening of bars, the quaint Nicosian bar Kafeneio To Leoforio has returned to organising its almost daily live music events. Its venue is mainly outdoors anyway, even in winter, so owner Stelios Vlachos has lost no time in bringing live music to Nicosia residents.

On Friday night, at 7.30pm, the Greek Jazz Duet Olga Xanthopoulou and Loukas Louka will perform a unique repertoire of authentic Greek jazz songs of the 40s, 50s and 60s with a slightly modern twist.

The weekend will begin with a day music session, still in a jazzy mood to brighten up your Saturday morning stroll. Popular French jazz duet the Avant Tout Duo will perform a set at 12pm on April 3 with retro, swing and jazz melodies in French, English and Greek. Until 3pm, Vanessa Megalemou and Vasilis Vourvopoulos aim to bring their nostalgic, Parisian flair to Old Nicosia.

Saturday evening will return to a Greek repertoire with the sweet melodies of Demetris Mesimeris together with Giorgos Hadjipapas on the bouzouki and clarinet. Starting at 7.30pm and for three hours, the two musicians will play beloved Greek traditional songs, rembetiko and folk tunes as well as pop. As an established artist on the island, Mesimeris is quickly gaining recognition as a musician, performing at numerous venues and with artists of calibre. His event at To Leoforio this Saturday is already sold out but he has another one coming up on April 13.

More Greek music will follow on Sunday and then on Tuesday 6, when Rewind band aims to take spectators on a musical journey with favourite songs from the 80s and 90s right up to the present day. Starting at 7.30pm, the acoustic band will play the biggest hits from each decade including party anthems, power ballads and timeless classics with a set designed to get everybody singing along, bopping at their seats.
