Quaranteens: 10 Kenyan celebrities expecting babies during COVID-19

News

You may have heard of “hurricane babies” or “blizzard babies,” but with Covid-19 shutting down the world, a pandemic baby boom sounds absolutely legit.  There’s only so much TV binge-watching you can do before you start going a little stir-crazy. And while you could do something productive like reading or picking up a new language (Ni How China), in two-person households, nothing cuts the tension like a little sexual healing. Docs might have said you should avoid mouth-to-mouth, but no one ever said anything about other parts, and over at Celebville, we’re seeing a whole lot of touching. Majority of coronavirus pregnancy announcements seem to be from celebrities like Lea Michele, Gigi Hadid, and Rooney Mara. 254 is not left behind with Kenyans musing over celebs with a bun in the oven, as we usher in the ‘coronials’ or ‘quaranteens’, the ‘new boomers’ in years to come.

Msalame posted on her social media accounts during her second trimester, sending her fans into a frenzy as they all sent congratulatory messages.

As a mother of twins, this was also an opportunity for her to clarify that she was expecting one bundle of joy. Having kept her relationship under wraps, a fan was curious about her baby daddy and how they were holding up to which she responded, “It is well”.

Arnelisa Muigai

Could there be a bun in the oven for Anerlisa?

Quite media-shy back in the day, Anerlisa the Keroche heiress flipped her personality on us and started flaunting her luxury lifestyle on social media. Fast forward, 2020 saw her wed Tanzanian musician Ben Pol, soon after her sister’s death. On occasion, the heiress has been taking to social media requesting for pregnancy-related advice from fans, with hubby Ben Pol also been sharing gems about fatherhood on Instagram, an indication that he is warming up to his soon-to-be role as a father. Could there be a bun in the oven for Anerlisa?

Miss Tiramisu

YouTuber Miss Tiramisu and fitness enthusiast Shiv took to social media to share their baby news with the world saying, “Nervous, Excited, Scared...But mostly happy, blessed and praying for the best!”

The couple will be welcoming their second born. Their daughter, Tshazi is often spotted in their workout videos. Shikie recently compared her first pregnancy to her second saying, “I was at my skinniest when I got pregnant with my first. I only started really showing at 6 months. This time though... “You never understand life until it grows inside of you,” the Mother-in-Law actress shared her baby news.

Tina has a strong support system including fellow actress Kate who recently showed her baby girl’s face after months of keeping her under wraps.

Sheila Ndinda

 Sheila Ndinda.

She might vlog her baby journey or not! Considering that Sheila is quite reserved and only shares her natural hair journey, it comes as no surprise that this natural hair content creator has managed to keep her bump out of the public eye thanks to headshots and clever photo angles that always cover her bump. The YouTuber has also been secretive about her partner, just like her friend Nancie Mwai who took years before revealing her pilot baby daddy and still kept her pregnancy phase a secret only to show up on social media with a grown daughter. With international vloggers often sharing their pregnancy journeys with fans and detailing what they have learnt through it all, it takes a lot of strength to go against the grain, so we shall sit tight and see when Sheila lets us in.

Naomi Wamboe

 Naomi Wamboe.

Having lived partly in the United States, Naomi and her sister former Miss Kenya USA Angela Muiruri, relocated to Kenya where they joined the media industry. Naomi is expecting a baby girl and she was excited to reveal this news to the world through a video.

She also had a baby shower brunch that was attended by close family members.

“This was literally a last min brunch, so don’t feel bad if you didn’t get called!” she consoled her fans.

Siteiya

 Siteiya.

Art director Siteiya celebrated her exclusive wedding last year down at the Coast and in true honeymoon fashion, is expecting a son. Siteiya was also once linked to musician Anto NeoSol, but went on to carve her niche in the film industry. Having raised a daughter already, motherhood is not new to her and she mentioned that she was happy to do it again saying, “A little bundle has been baking in here... Can’t wait to meet this one... Blessed to carry a little blessing yet again.”

Khadija Abdalla

 Khadija Abdalla and Chef Ali.

Besides whipping up delicious meals and sharing much-needed recipes during this quarantine time when people are mainly stuck at home, Chef Ali is staying ready for a baby as his wife Dija is set to deliver soon.

“Being pregnant means every day is another day closer to meeting the new love of my life, InshaAllah A new adventure is about to begin Can’t wait” She said

Quite unconventional, Chef Ali mentioned that they were ready for baby regardless of gender and would not be keen to know it before birth.

“We pray for a healthy baby we don’t mind any gender we are blessed with, be it a Girl or a Boy we shall welcome with great joy…we usually don’t even check gender during baby scans we love the surprise.”

Lady Mandy

 Lady Mandy.

Cookout couple Lady Mandy and Polycarp of Sauti Sol are serving more than just food in their kitchen. They also have a bun in the oven and have been flaunting it for the world to see. Mandy already wished Polycarp a happy Father’s Day saying, “Happiest Father’s Day to the best dad to be @itsmefancyfingers they say fatherhood does not begin at birth, but during pregnancy. Words have never been truer. We love you always.”

Also a fashionista, Mandy seems to be getting a lot of reactions based on how she dresses! In one of her photos where she has a thigh-high slit dress, she says “First, learnt this week that the concept of a high slit and a pregnant woman made many uncomfortable.... got so many stares and confusing blank stares that I was truly perplexed to what that meant. What is this unspoken unwritten contract that I had broken? Do you have expectations with how a pregnant woman should dress?”

In a photo where his head is on Mandy’s baby bump, Polycarp goofed about the Sauti Sol song ‘Rhumba Japani’ saying, ‘kuna rhumba ya mtoi, utajua hujui’?
