Ayutthaya takes us back in time

With the pandemic seemingly under control, travel-related events are starting to come back. Ayutthaya province, for example, is inviting visitors to dress in traditional Thai costumes on Aug 15 for its "Symphony Sri Ayutthaya" evening.

From 4pm on at the grounds of Wat Maha That, which is part of Ayutthaya Historical Park, there will be a period market offering a variety of Thai food, both savoury dishes and desserts. Winning entries to a recent art contest that was held under the theme "If Ayutthaya Were Still The Capital" will be put on display. Attractive photo spots will also be arranged for selfie lovers.

But, as the event's name suggests, the highlight of the evening will be the musical performance by Kasetsart University Wind Symphony. The youth orchestra, which won a gold medal at the 17th World Music Contest in the Netherlands, will entertain parkgoers free of charge with Thai songs to make sure that the Saturday evening is one of their most memorable.

For inquiries about the event, contact the Ayutthaya Tourism and Sports page on Facebook. You can also watch Kasetsart University Wind Symphony's previous concerts on its YouTube channel. And if you have no traditional attire in your closet, don't worry. There are many shops in Ayutthaya city where you can easily rent one.
