The Institute of Jamaica (IOJ) has chosen Hanover as the parish that they will salute this year in the annual parish salute.

According to the IOJ, Hanover was chosen because of the historical contributions by the people and the role they have played in national development.

The ceremony, which is dubbed 'Salute to the Parish of Hanover', will be held on November 29, commencing at 10 a.m. at the IOJ Lecture Hall on East Street, Kingston.

Justice Seymour Panton, a Hanoverian, will be speaking at the event.

Okema Hamilton, public relations officer at the IOJ, said that the ceremony will be held in Kingston because the first two were held there. However, she stressed that persons from Hanover are invited to attend the ceremony.

The IOJ described the parish as "likkle but tallawah" and said that because of its rich heritage and strong linkages to our African ancestors, Hanover should be recognised.

With strong ties to their African decent, the parish takes pride in preserving the African dance culture.

A very distinct feature of the parish is a sub-culture preserved by the Ettu Dance Group. The dance originates from the African Yoruba tribe, and is done with the lifting and dropping of the shoulders with the feet shuffling. It is performed to songs that are sung in Yoruban dialect.

As a parish with a very strong culture, it is quite fitting that the Magnum STAR Live free concert will be held in Lucea square in the parish in November 23.

The free concert concept is being done as part of THE STAR's birthday celebration on November 24.

The Lucea concert will also feature Gage, Wayne Marshall, Gyptian, and Jah Vinci. There will also be several supporting cast members such as the talented 2009 Digicel Rising Stars winner Shuga and female dancehall act Starface.

The Magnum STAR Live series is sponsored by Magnum Xplosion, Konka Energy Drink, and Spotlight and Flawless Productions.
