The new director of the Indian Cultural Centre in Suva hopes to help Fiji in every way he can during his three-year term.

This is Om Prakash Bharti’s first international appointment and he is ready to accomplish his goals by performing his role.

“I come with a plan with guidance from the high commissioner who will explore to promote all aspects of the Fijian culture and also provide platform to learn and showcase the Indian cultural heritage, which includes yoga, music, dance and theatre,” Mr Bharti said.

“Like India, Fiji has a multicultural society and has developed its cultural diversity. I arrived in Fiji on July 31st and will do my best while holding this post.

“We will provide a platform for Fijian artists to ensure that Fiji and Indian artists interact,” Mr Bharti said.

“We will continue to provide scholarship for Fijians who want to pursue their studies in India.”

Mr Bharti has written more than two dozen books that are mostly on indigenous knowledge, culture and performing arts.

He was working as a professor at Mahatma Gandhi international Hindi University in Mumbai, India before his posting to Fiji last month.
