Acclaimed American Indian Native dance group Yellow Bird arrives in Nadi today for its tour of Fiji.

The dancers will be performing for free at various venues.

As part of its cultural programmes, the United States of America Embassy will welcome the visiting troupe of six Native American performers from Yellow Bird Productions to the country.   

American arts professionals including performing artists, visual artists, poets, playwrights, theatrical and film directors, curators, and others—travel overseas to conduct workshops, give performances, and mentor young people.

The group arrives in Nadi, today and will perform at Navala Village in Ba tomorrow, in Nadi at the Nadi Farmers Club on July 24 and at Ratu Sukuna Park, Suva on July 27.

USA Embassy regional public affairs officer Alena Vesikula-Vatuwaliwali said, “Our arts envoy programme shares the best of the US arts community with the world to foster cross-cultural understanding and collaboration to demonstrate shared values and aspirations.

“These programmes seek to connect with the international public, who might not otherwise have the opportunity to engage with American arts professionals.”

The Yellow Bird family dancers include, Jonathan Duncan “Swift Horse Coming” and Talon Duncan “Lightning Crow Dancer”,

The group will perform at the Nadi Farmers Club, from 6pm on Tuesday.

Nadi Farmers Bar and Restaurant director Tracey Farrington said “The club is honoured to be part of the free performance of world acclaimed American Indian Native Dance group Yellow Bird.

“Discover American Apache native Indian dance, and cultural traditions through the rhythm of dance and music.

“This is going to be an exciting performance, such a great opportunity to learn and experience American history.”

Also joining Yellow Bird during this performance is the famous Fijian dance team ‘VOU’.
