The tune was all too familiar considering you’ve been hearing it for some dozen years. It was Kevin Lyttle’s Turn me On. Only that the lyrics seemed slightly different. Perhaps because they were in Spanish. The Mexican team, who had just begun changing into their training gear at the Holy Trinity Church ground, certainly seem to know them word to word with most of them not only singing along but even jiving to the music. It’s a routine they follow before every practice session—some music therapy to get them into the groove. Lyttle’s dubbed soca single was followed by a few more popular English RnB hits in Spanish before the session ended with something more Mexican, some mariachi.

A Bobby Moore picture hanging on the Salt Lake Stadium tunnel provides inspiration to the England colts. Moore, England’s only World Cup-winning captain, came to Kolkata in 1984, when the Salt Lake Stadium was inaugurated. The West Ham legend passed away in 1993, but he remains an inspiration to many, including the U-17 captain Joel Latibeaudiere. The Young Lions performance so far would have made the great man proud.
