Abat Fayzullayev, Uzbekistan’s first ambassador to San Marino, with residence in Rome, presented his credentials to the heads of state — Captains-Regent Francesca Civerchia and Dalibor Riccardi, as reported by the news agency Dunyo.

During the ceremony, Luca Beccari, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of San Marino, highly praised the large-scale economic and democratic reforms taking place in Uzbekistan. He also acknowledged the efforts to strengthen dialogue with San Marino, including the appointment of the first-ever ambassador to this country in the history of bilateral relations.

The minister welcomed Uzbekistan’s policy on addressing climate and environmental issues, as well as its contribution to sustainable development.

There was also a strong expression of confidence in the continued growth of trade and economic cooperation, the strengthening of the bilateral legal framework, and mutual support for candidates and initiatives within the United Nations and OSCE for multilateral cooperation.

It was emphasized that active participation from San Marino's delegation would be ensured at international events held in Uzbekistan later this year.

Abat Fayzullayev has served as Uzbekistan’s ambassador to Italy since November 2023, as well as permanent representative to international organizations in Rome (FAO, WHO, UNDP), and from December 2024, he will serve as the first ambassador to Cyprus. From March 2025, he will also serve as Uzbekistan's first ambassador to Malta.

The Captains-Regent are the collective heads of state and government in San Marino, elected every six months by the General Council of San Marino. They assume office on April 1 and October 1 each year and typically come from opposing political parties.
