As part of this year’s Labour Day Celebration, the Sudbury and District Labour Council and the Sudbury Workers’ Centre are inviting local musicians to participate in a Labour Day Song Contest.

The contest honours the essential workers who have done so much to keep us safe, fed and cared for during the pandemic, said a press release.

There will be awards for the best original song and for the best production. The awards have been provided by Long and McQuade Musical Instruments and Cosmic Dave’s.

The labour council will also award first and second runner up prizes in both categories.

Songs will be featured at this year’s Labour Day celebration (by the way, there have been some changes to the 2020 edition of this event due to the pandemic — instead of the usual festival at Bell Park, there will be a car parade to the USW Hall, and a drive-in musical event).

The winners will be selected by a panel of local musicians.

Songs should be suitable for a family audience, under 4 (four) minutes long and in mp3 format. Entries should include the name of the artist(s), songwriter(s) and producer(s).

Deadline for entries is Aug. 31. For more information or to enter, email [email protected].
