Earlier this fall, Carly Rae Jepsen announced that she had written over 80 songs for her next album at The New Yorker Festival.

The best part: she divulged details of her new music having an "understated disco" influence.

Plus, she revealed she's been collaborating with Swedish pop star Robyn's producer Patrik Berger.

Fans were obviously excited to hear these details, but there's been no timeline for music set in place.

The wait for the follow-up to 2015's Emotion has been excruciating, so it comes as no surprise that Jepsen's announcement on Instagram that new music is indeed coming (likely soon) is in fact a big deal.

Since Jepsen released "Cut To The Feeling" earlier this year, fans have been eagerly awaiting new music from the pop IT girl herself.

In Jepsen's Instagram stories, she looks almost unrecognisable with long blonde hair.

It appears that she was doing a photo shoot or filming a music video channelling her inner Cyndi Lauper.

But judging by a silly Instagram video Jepsen posted featuring a photographer named Matthew Takes, the former looks more likely, as he's holding a professional camera in his hand.

While there's still no release date for a new record, Jepsen's Instagram post has us crossing our fingers that 2018 will bring us lots of hits from the "Run Away With Me" singer.
