New Speedway festival highlights July concert calendar

Jason Aldean, Dierks Bentley and Lady Antebellum represent Nashville

The Chainsmokers will perform July 22 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The introduction of electronic dance music to NASCAR weekend leads the July concert calendar in Indianapolis.

A two-night event titled 400 Fest will bring the Chainsmokers, Major Lazer and four more acts to Indianapolis Speedway on July 21-22. The annual Brickyard 400 race is set for July 23.

At Klipsch Music Center, Jason Aldean, Dierks Bentley and Lady Antebellum highlight a big month for Nashville sounds.

Tedeschi Trucks Band

Husband-wife team Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi lead this multi-dimensional band, which released a concert film/live album titled "Live From The Fox Oakland" in February. Trucks previously played in the Allman Brothers Band, while Tedeschi earned a best new artist Grammy nomination in 2000.

Asleep at the Wheel

Asleep at the Wheel aims to transform Fountain Square's Hi-Fi nightclub with a road show titled the "Texas Dance Hall Tour." Attendees will have a chance to dance to songs in the Western swing tradition of Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys. Dale Watson will serve as supporting act for Asleep at the Wheel.

Warped Tour

Founded as a punk rock caravan in 1995, the Warped Tour is celebrating its musical roots with a contingent of "heritage" acts among the day's 21st-century upstarts. Old-school bands coming to Klipsch include Anti-Flag, Suicide Machines, the Ataris, Gwar, Hatebreed, Sick of It All, Save Ferris and CKY. 

400 Fest

Following the success of Indy 500 Snake Pit concerts, which cater to electronic dance music fans, Indianapolis Motor Speedway will present two nights of similar acts as part of this year’s NASCAR weekend at the track. Major Lazer, Mac Miller and Cheat Codes will perform on July 21, followed by the Chainsmokers, Pretty Lights and DNCE on July 22.

Sir Sly

This California band will showcase current single "High," which reached No. 6 on Billboard magazine's alternative songs chart. In mid-June, Sir Sly played Delaware's Firefly Music Festival, a four-day event headlined by Twenty One Pilots, the Weeknd, Chance the Rapper and Muse.

Dierks Bentley

With no new album in stores since 2016's "Black," Bentley is likely to hit most of the same good-time country peaks he did during last year's "Somewhere on a Beach" tour. One of this summer's supporting acts, Cole Swindell, invited Bentley to sing on "Flatliner," presently No. 12 on Billboard's country singles chart.

Umphrey's McGee

The biggest jam band to emerge from Indiana, Umphrey's McGee issued an ambitious mash-ups album titled "Zonkey" (featuring songs such as "Can't Rock My Dream Face" inspired by Michael Jackson, Fleetwood Mac and The Weeknd) last December.

This two-time Grammy-winning act is on tour to promote 2016 album "The Serenity of Suffering." Korn's tour visiting Klipsch Music Center is titled "The Serenity of Summer," featuring fellow hard-rock act Stone Sour.

Hillary Scott, Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood issued their "Heart Break" album on June 9. Kelsea Ballerini and Brett Young will perform as supporting acts for Lady Antebellum, which topped the Billboard country chart with six singles between 2009 and 2011. Lady A performed as part of the 2015 March Madness Music Festival at White River State Park.

INDYpendence Day Concert for Cancer

311 will perform July 4 at the Pavilion at Pan Am.

Rock band 311, which scaled the charts with '90s hits "Down" and "Come Original," will headline the fifth annual INDYpendence Day Concert for Cancer. Founded by former leukemia patient Scott Lintner, the concert will raise funds for the Love Hope Strength Foundation and Franciscan Health patient assistance fund.

Klipsch Music Center will be the second stop on this double-bill tour, which launches July 5 in Cleveland. A March show in Green Bay, Wis., featured a tribute to Michael Jackson and a song Feldman co-wrote with Rick Springfield: "Former Child Actor."

Fitz & the Tantrums and James Arthur will accompany One Republic at Klipsch.

A centerpiece of the annual Indiana Black Expo Summer Celebration, this Friday night concert will feature performances by Johnny Gill, Atlantic Starr and Zapp. After joining the lineup of New Edition in 1987, Gill enjoyed solo-act success with the songs "My, My, My" and "Rub You the Right Way."

Before the release of 2016 album "They Don't Know," Georgia native Aldean won the Academy of Country Music entertainer of the year trophy for the first time. Headlining Klipsch Music Center for the sixth time in seven summers, Aldean can rely on a big response for 2012 hit "Fly Over States." "I had no idea it would make the connection like it did, especially in the heartland," Aldean told IndyStar in 2015. "It resonates with those people, who are a huge part of our fan base."

Indianapolis native Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds will headline the annual ticketed concert presented as part of Indiana Black Expo Summer Celebration. Fantasia Barrino and Chante Moore will perform before Edmonds, an 11-time Grammy Award winner who issued his "Return of the Tender Lover" album in 2015. Edmonds played previous Summer Celebration shows in 2004, 2005 and 2014.
