On Christmas, country music legend Randy Travis surprised a North Texas policeman who recently lost everything

It's been a triumphant year for country music legend Randy Travis. The singer, who suffered a debilitating stroke in 2013 that left him with limited speech, was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in October. Though fans thought they may never hear him sing again, he stunned those at the ceremony with an emotional rendition of "Amazing Grace"

This week, he decided to pay forward some of the good vibes.

On Christmas day, Travis joined the family of Gainsville police officer Keith Bartlett with a surprise gift, a Gibson guitar to replace one lost when the Bartlett home burned on Dec. 12, KXII-TV reports.

The superstar, who resides in Tioga in Grayson County, first met Bartlett when the officer responded to a theft on Travis' ranch. They had remained friendly over the years, and when Travis and his wife, Mary, saw a news story about the fire on television, they sprang into action. Mary had an acoustic Gibson guitar, just like Bartlett's old one, overnighted to North Texas, NBC 5 reports.

She told the news station she understood music's powerful therapeutic qualities, particularly seeing its effects during her husband's long recovery.

On Christmas day, Bartlett was sent out on a false call, but was soon called back to the station. There, he found his wife and children with the Travises, who presented him with the guitar. Travis signed it and spent some time with officers who were spending their holiday on shift while Bartlett strummed, NBC reports.
